Foods to Prevent Yeast Infection
By Anna Garcia
As you probably know yeast infections occur from the inside and therefore can only be cured by using internal methods. Doctors tend to prescribe treatments for the external factors which I believe are wrong. The yeast infection is only relieved for a short while and then comes more inflamed and more difficult to treat. External treatments are important as long as they are not creams or cortisone which for some reason are often prescribed by the GP but rarely works. Natural homeopathic medicines work on external symptoms of yeast infection especially External Candida.
The signs of candida infection are often associated with different kinds of skin rashes, often mis-diagnosed as eczema and inappropriately treated with oil based creams which inflames the rash. The skin rashes are areas of small eruptions as in the photo, or red and yellow circular eruptions occurring anywhere on the body, ranging from small to large.
Candida infections commonly occur in warm moist body areas, such as the underarms, in the groin, breasts, and under the folds of the skin of the abdomen of persons who are obese. In my case the infection was under my knees, inside my legs and in the crease of the elbow joint. The area most affected was inside my legs making it very difficult to walk as my legs rubbed together making the rash worse. I knew then that I need help and more importantly foods to prevent yeast infection.
When I was suffering from 'external candida' a form of yeast infection I drastically changed my diet in order to fight this infection that I knew was coming from an internal cause. I was not sure what the cause was but after a number of weeks I soon realised it was an internal problem that could only be changed through a detoxification program and a change in diet. Apparently yeast infections are a result of a mutation of the Candida yeast that is normally harmless, but is now aggressive. The result of this is that the harmful bacteria have to be treated internally for all symptoms to disappear.
As part of my detoxification strategy I avoided all sugary foods. This was the first food source to be eliminated as yeast bacterium thrives on sugar. The second food to avoid was wheat including all white bread, brown bread, wholemeal bread as candida thrives on the yeast in bread. That was pretty hard for me as I loved bread, cakes etc. In the first week of detoxification I was eating juice shakes made up of green vegetables and lemon juice. This food prevents yeast infection as well as cures it. I would blend celery, green cabbage, spinach broad beans, and sprouts. The taste was not very appealing but being covered in an ugly rash was not either. The infection also makes you dehydrated so I had to drink lots of filtered water.
Along with my green juice diet I had to take 2000 mg of Vit C as well as colostrum, a dairy based product which apparently helps support the immune system. I found the juice cleanse a very beneficial food for curing and preventing yeast infection and surprisingly gave me lots of energy which I thought would do the opposite. After 3 days of cleansing I noticed that my symptoms started to clear and then I knew that the toxins in my body were gradually being removed.
